Emerge Aotearoa’s Flexible Disability Support Service is an exciting new service! It provides young people leaving school who have received ORS funding with the opportunity to design their own service. This is done utilising your personal budget that has been approved through NASC.
The support you request could include:
We will help you connect with existing resources and services of your choice which are available to all members of the community. You could also ask us about support to buy goods or services from other agencies. Check out the other services information on this website to get a feel for the other things we do.
What happens next?
If you want to meet someone from Emerge Aotearoa your first contact will be with Luke Mitchell. Luke is the service manager and co-ordinator who will be your consistent go-to person. Luke will help you to make a plan going forward that you are happy with. You might want to work with one of the great people within Emerge Aotearoa, or you might select people or services of your choice from outside Emerge Aotearoa.
Throughout your time with us you will receive regular contact from Luke who will be there to follow up on how things are going. We want to hear what’s good and what’s not.
The work we do will be driven by your dreams, ambitions and preferences. Our aim is to be as flexible, open and creative as possible, while supporting you to achieve the outcomes you care about.

My name is Luke Mitchell - Husband of one and father of two.
I have been in Canterbury for about 13 years and consider Canterbury my home.
I have worked with Emerge Aotearoa for four years and am social work trained. In my time working at Emerge Aotearoa I have worked in a number of areas from mobile community support, earthquake support coordination and am now a Service Manager.
In my pre Emerge Aotearoa year I worked predominantly with youth and in my pre - human service career I have worked in carpentry and computing.
I was brought up with role models that have excelled through their disability experiences to become recognized disability advocates in the community. I have a passion for wellbeing and helping people find richer happier lives through connecting to their families, whānau and communities.
