Our Board

Sina was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2022, for services to governance. A Pacific woman of Samoan, German and English descent she has over 25 years working in the commercial, public and not-for-profit sectors in governance and executive roles. Sina is committed to helping build exceptional leadership fit for the 21st century focussing on developing the leadership, governance and strategic capability of individuals, organisations, and communities. As Tangata Tiriti (Tangata Moana), Sina is committed to honouring Te Ao Māori, upholding the principles of Te Tiriti, and supporting equitable outcomes for Māori. She is also passionate about contributing to the success of Pasifika peoples in Aotearoa.

Sina was the Chief Executive of Leadership New Zealand for 8 years, and prior to that for six years she was the founding Chief Executive of the National Pacific Radio Trust that established the Pacific Media Network and NiuFM.  She previously held executive roles in sales management, learning and organisational development with Telecom Directories, and the NZ Institute of Management.

Sina has broad and diverse governance experience on a range of boards and trusts over the last two decades. She is a former member of the AUT Council and is a founding trustee of the Pacific Music Awards Trust. Her past roles have included the AUT Business School Advisory Committee, YWCA Aotearoa NZ, PACIFICA Auckland, Appoint better boards, and the CMe Mentoring Trust (Trades At School).

Dr Peter Bramley is a former Chief Executive of Canterbury and West Coast District Health Board and is the Deputy Chair of the government’s medicines funding agency Pharmac.

He has worked in a range of senior management and governance positions in the health sector.

Peter is an energetic and passionate people leader, with a strong focus on improving equitable health outcomes and on the importance of accessing healthcare close to home.

He studied at the University of Otago where he gained a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Physiology and also completed his PhD in Medicine. He has previously lectured in Biochemistry and in Dunedin and Christchurch.

Jason descends from the Rogers whānau of Ngāti Te Roro o Te Rangi and the Leonard whanau of Ngāti Rangiwewehi.

He is a professional director and sits on a number of Boards as Chair, Independent Director and Trustee in the Iwi Settlement space.  He also acts as Lead Advisor to organisations seeking to undertake mixed use housing developments where open market and public housing outcomes are delivered.

He has a wide range of experience in governance, strategy, funds management, leadership mentoring, audit and risk, land development, property investment, strategic partnerships, business development, direct investment and private equity.

He is passionate about advancing the interests of lwi and Pasifika by utilising economic capacity to deliver better outcomes.

Ko Mihi Blair ahau

With over 15 years of experience, Mihi Blair serves as the Kaiwhakahaere Hauora Māori, Mana Taurite at ProCare Health Ltd., Aotearoa’s largest Primary Health Organisation. Her career is dedicated to driving positive change for Māori and Pacific communities through strategic management, advocacy, and fostering partnerships with iwi.

Mihi’s expertise spans community engagement, legislative processes, and funding management, with leadership roles across sectors such as health, housing, education, and social services. She serves on the board of Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara – Ngāti Whātua ki Kaipara.

Her involvement in the Vaping Steering Group and the Smokefree Oceania Conference reflects her commitment to equitable policies and community well-being. At ProCare, Mihi ensures that the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi remain central to achieving better health outcomes for Māori and future generations.

A proud māmā of three daughters, Mihi enjoys spending her time with her whānau and participating in iwi activities.

Tama is of Ngāti Whātua, Waikato and Ngāti Tuwharetoa descent.

He has over 25 years experience in public health, mental wellbeing and addictions services, within iwi, the NGO sector and District Health Boards.

His expertise is in governing large health organizations. Previously, he was the deputy chair for ADHB, and the Northern DHBs representative for New Zealand Health Partnerships. Currently, Tama is the Poutaki Matauranga at UniServices – University of Auckland/Waipapa Taumata Rau.

He is a board member for Comprehensive Care PHO; an elected member of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust and whanau director on Whai Maia, the social developmental arm of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei; interim board member for Te Kahu o Taonui IMPB; board member for Auckland Health Foundation and Director of Ahikaroa Enterprises.

He holds an MBA from the University of Auckland, a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Huanga Māori, and is a member of the Institute of Directors. His focus is on effective health services, indigenous models of care, addressing inequity in health outcomes, and pursuing hauora for all.

A Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors, Adam is a business consultant, who was previously Managing Partner of accounting and advisory firm BDO Wellington and Head of Advisory and Director of Innovation for BDO New Zealand.

He is Chair of the Health and Safety consultancy HazardCo Ltd. As well as governance, Adam’s expertise includes strategic and business planning; business growth facilitation; and management, merger and acquisition negotiations.

Adam is currently a Strategic Adviser to Veterinary Professional Insurance Society and a consultant for Spotlight Reporting Ltd.

John is an experienced Chief Executive with a demonstrated history of delivering in significant capital and long-term investment environments. John is currently the CEO at Western Bay District Council and previously led the team at the Tamaki Regeneration Company, based in Auckland.

John is passionate about the social housing sector and is particularly experienced in managing change, process improvement, business development and programme management.

Having worked across commercial and social sectors, John enjoys delivering in complex environments, working through strong relationships and stakeholder engagement.

Professor Te Kani Kingi is Executive Director of Research and Innovation at Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi.  Prior to this, he was an Associate Professor at Massey University in Wellington and concurrently held three roles as Director Māori within the Office of the Associate Vice-Chancellor, Director of the Research Centre for Māori Health and Development within the College of Health, and Director of Academy for Māori Research and Scholarship.

He has a specialist interest in health outcome measurement (psychometrics), Māori mental health, longitudinal research, public health and health service delivery. He holds a broad range of governance roles.

He was born and raised in Poroporo (near Whakatāne) and educated at St Stephen’s School (TIPENE) in Bombay.  Te Kani has tribal affiliations to Ngāti Pūkeko, Ngāti Awa, and Ngai Tai.

Tanya is Group Manager Strategy & Operations – Te Waipounamu National Public Health Service, Te Whatu Ora.

In addition to her current management role, Tanya contracts to Health Legal, the legal arm of Ministry of Health in New Zealand. She is also a member of the selection panel for Rhodes Scholarship applications.

Tanya has held various governance roles and is the current Chair of Tangata Atumotu Trust, a not-for-profit Pacific health and social services provider based in Canterbury.

In her earlier career Tanya was a solicitor in Christchurch practicing in the criminal, family and civil jurisdictions before taking up a role with the Official Assignee’s Office administering bankruptcies, liquidations and the management of restrained and forfeited assets under the Proceeds of Crime Act 1991.

Tanya holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Bachelor of Laws degree, a post graduate Diploma in Public Health and a Masters of Business Administration. She is of Samoan (Siusega)/ Cook Islands (Aitutaki) descent and is a public health consultant to the Ministry of Health in the Cook Islands. In her spare time, Tanya enjoys yoga and karate and holds the rank of Sandan (3rd dan black belt) in Seido karate.

Dr Lana Perese is a New Zealand born Samoan – her parents hailing from the villages of Magiagi and Fasito’o Uta. She has strong analytical and research skills obtained from more than 20 years in academic and government research. Her strengths include translating research and evidence into policy implications.

Lana is currently a Director and the Auckland Manager at Malatest International, where she leads a range of Pacific, Auckland and national based evaluation and research projects. Previous positions include Research Manager at the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs (now Ministry for Pacific Peoples), Pacific Health Research Manager at The University of Auckland (Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences), Research Fellow at The University of Auckland and Auckland University of Technology. Lana is a board member for Counties Manukau District Health Board (CMDHB), a Director for Vaka Tautua, and a Trustee for Malologa Trust.

Alastair has been CEO of Bay Trust since 2015. In that time, he and the Bay Trust Board have significantly altered their $250m investment portfolio to ensure it better aligns with their mission of making a positive social and environmental difference including investing in a significant range of housing opportunities.  Alastair is also the Chair of Aotearoa’s Impact Investment Network.

Prior to his appointment at BayTrust, Alastair held executive positions in aviation and consulting. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and Lawyer and has a legal, commercial and strategic background.  Alastair has a passion for impact and sustainable investing to help drive a more inclusive and sustainable society, with a particular focus on Housing and Climate Change, to make Aotearoa a better place for future generations.

Wayne Vargis has worked for Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu since 2011, and has been the General Manager, Regional Investment Fund since 2020. The $100m fund is tasked with fostering the devolution aspirations of the iwi. In this role, Wayne works alongside the 18 Papatipu Rūnanga of Ngāi Tahu to invest in regional economic development opportunities that deliver localised/kainga-centric outcomes.

Wayne was the General Manager, Operations for the health and social services arm of Ngai Tahu. Wayne then left to establish Te Pūtahitanga – successfully winning the South Island’s largest social services contract in the process. He has also been the programme leader for tribal economies; creating, Puna Pākihi, the award winning platform that works alongside Ngāi Tahu Whānui to make their business ideas a reality. Most recently, he worked for Ngāi Tahu Property as their Commercial Partnerships Manager, where he was responsible for the firm’s deal-flow pipeline; securing Te Pā Tahuna, a $250m residential development in Queenstown and the yet to be built CDHB carpark.

Wayne has a degree in Chemical Engineering and a Masters in Engineering Management. He has also completed an executive management programme at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and earned a Masters of Business Administration – with Welch Scholar Distinction – from the Jack Welch Management Institute in Washington, DC.

Sally Webb has over 30 years leadership experience in governance and management in health, education, and voluntary organisations. She has a nursing background and has a wide range of experiences across the health sector. She has held numerous Board Chair roles and has many years’ experience as a coach and consultant involved in leadership development with individuals and organisations.

In 2013, Sally was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of her services to health and education.
