Personal Connections and Skills for Life offer peer led workshops, delivered by facilitators with lived experience of mental health distress and/or addiction. The service is available to anyone aged 18 and over who identifies as currently experiencing, or having previously experienced, mental health distress or addiction. Workshops are run within the greater Wellington region, which includes Wellington, Porirua and the Kāpiti Coast.
We offer two workshop programmes: Concrete Jungle and PeerZone, that run over a six to twelve week timeframe.
These workshops explore distress, recovery, and what influences our mental health and well-being. Tāngata Whaiora are supported in exploring their personal journey, identifying and learning skills to empower them in realising their potential.
Our facilitators support and encourage tāngata whaiora to foster connections both within the workshop group and the wider community.
Developed by Ka Puta Ka Ora Emerge Aotearoa, Concrete Jungle is an engaging workshop series supporting tāngata whaiora to build connections and wellness strategies.
- Varied and inspiring topics, for example Confidence and Self-Esteem, Healthy Relationships, Hua Oranga and Resilience.
- Relevant (topic related) community excursions, for example Cultural Awareness
- Fun, encouraging and recovery-focused.
PeerZone combines the expertise of lived experience with an evidence-based approach. These workshops operate on three levels by:
- Inviting participants to rebuild a more positive story of their lives
- Offering self-help wellness tools for holistic wellbeing
- Creating a community of mutual support.
Tāngata whaiora can self-refer or be referred by their clinical care teams, GPs, Health Improvement Practitioners, Navigators, whānau, or other community service providers.
