Whānau and Family Support

Emerge Aotearoa's Family and Whānau Support service assists families that have a loved one living with a mental health challenge.

We help families learn how they can support their loved one by providing information about mental illness, navigating the mental health system, and community resources.

We also assist families to better understand what someone experiencing mental illness is going through. Often family/whānau don't have the right tools to support their loved one. Our Family and Whānau Support service can develop strategies for them to cope with the challenges that mental ill health can bring. We can also help with connecting whānau to other services or support groups.

Our family/whānau service provides:

  • education on how to best care for and support a loved one with mental distress
  • information/education for a better understanding of mental illness, and the services and supports available
  • advocacy to empower families/whānau to confidentially navigate mental health services.
